Updating AVG:
It is necessary once you have installed AVG to keep it up-to-date at all times as new viruses are released regularly.
Please follow the below instructions to update AVG.
(This is mainly for people using normal dial-up connections) If you have broadband then the below instructions are usually done automatically in the background for you by AVG and the fact that your broadband tends to be on most of the time the computer is turned on.
Note that first you should connect to the internet by first going to the desktop then pressing letter "I" till you hear internet explorer then next press enter key and connect to the net. Now wait for your internet webpage to come up and you will know you are connected. Next return to the desktop with keys " left windows key plus letter M".
- Go to the desktop and press the letter "A" till you get jaws saying "AVG7" or something like that.
- Press the enter key on it and wait for it to open up.
- Next press the "F9" key to activate the start of the update procedurer.
- Now press the tab key till you get to where it says "internet button" and
at this point hit the "spacebar".
Note: what this will do is go to the home site of the AVG program and
examine any available downloads that are currently available to you for
download. They are presented to you in a short list and there could be 1
update or more than 1 update so it is a good idea to repeat all these
instructions while you are still connected on-line a few times in order to
receive all available downloads presented to you. - Now that you have determined that there are files to be downloaded to
your AVG program press the tab key till you come to the "update button" and
press the spacebar "once".
Note: If there are no updates currently available and you have the latest
updates already installed AVG will tell you so and prompt you to press the
enter key on an "OK button". - When the update has been successfully downloaded to your PC AVG will come
up with an "OK prompt" to which you press either the "enter key" or the
"spacebar". It doesn't matter which.
Now repeat the steps above from "step 3 to step 6" to determine if there
are more than just one update file to be downloaded. If there are no further
updates available then you will be told and you will press an ok button.
Reboot the PC and you should be up-to-date.
Cleaning out the virus vault.
- On the desktop press the letter "A" to highlight the icon for AVG if
that's what you are using. - Press enter key on it and wait for a moment or two for it to open up.
- Press keys "left alt plus spacebar and then press letter X" to maximize
your Virus screens. This is something you should do for all programs. - Press keys "left alt and P" to open the AVG programs menu.
- Arrow down to where it says "virus vault" and hit enter key.
- Wait for a minute or so as if there are items "viruses" within the virus
vault it takes a little time for them to load up. - Use keys "control plus letter A" to "select all items" within the vault.
- Now press the "delete key" on your keyboard to begin getting rid of the
viruses that may be stored there. - At this point AVG will ask you to confirm that you wish to delete each
virus separately, you will just press the "spacebar" each time you are asked
to confirm as we wish to get rid of all items because they are now damaged
and are no further use to us except that they can cause problems in the
future. - Now when you no longer receive the confirm prompt then you have deleted
all the items in the vault.
Only one more step and that is to close the virus vault and the main AVG
window with keys "alt plus f4" you will have to do this most likely twice to
close each of the two open windows.
Note that if after you open your virus vault and it may come up empty then
no worries it just means that AVG is deleting the nasties as it finds them
but you should take a look in here from time to time especially if you are
receiving errors every now and then. Use the instructions outlined above to
rid the vault of any items stored in there.
